Nitish Kumar Reddy has reportedly been ruled out of India's tours of Ireland and England due to a left quadriceps injury that exacerbated during last week's third one-day international against Afghanistan in Chennai.

Reddy will spend at least a month recovering at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru to be prepared for the August two-Test tour to Sri Lanka, the dates of which have not yet been disclosed.

Reddy was rested for the second match in Lucknow after suffering an injury while bowling in the first ODI against Afghanistan in Dharamsala. After delivering six wicketless overs for 42 runs in the most recent game in Chennai, he reportedly complained of pain, ESPNCricinfo reported.

This means India will be without both of their frontline seam-bowling all-rounders. Hardik Pandya's leg injury, which he suffered during a conditioning session at the CoE after his IPL 2026 season, prevented him from participating in the tour of England and Ireland last week.

He was also excluded from the ODIs against Afghanistan as a result. His comeback has not yet been scheduled.

India has the options of Shivam Dube and Harshit Rana to fill in, but their primary skills are batting and bowling, respectively. Suryansh Shedge might be a like-for-like choice if the selectors want to replace Reddy in the team.

While Shedge performed well with the bat, making his first List A half-century in a match against Sri Lanka A, his returns with the ball were less than ideal during his recent trip to Sri Lanka for the 'A' team tri-series.

India is scheduled to play two T20Is in Ireland this weekend (June 26 and 28), before heading over to England for a five-match T20I series starting July 1, which three ODIs will follow. India will be captained by Shreyas Iyer, who replaced the 2026 T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav.
