Sooryavanshi angrily pushed one Sri Lanka A player after being provoked in the Tri-Nation A Series match.
Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi found himself at the centre of chaos, where he lost his cool after being provoked by one Sri Lanka A player.
The tension boiled over after India A failed to chase 17 runs in the Super Over. As Sooryavanshi was walking back to the pavilion, Sri Lanka A player Vishen Halambage reportedly sledged the 15-year-old by saying, "Match over…now you go home".
This prompted Sooryavanshi to charge back, leading to a shoving match that required intervention from senior players like Niroshan Dickwella to defuse the situation.
Reacting to the episode, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar stated that if he were the coach or manager of the India A team, he would have dropped Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for the match against Afghanistan A to teach him a disciplinary lesson following a physical altercation.
“If I was India A coach or manager I would have left Vaibhav Suryavanshi out for this game v AFG. Only to let him know that’s it’s not OK to get physical on the field. Whatever the provocations,” Manjrekar wrote on X.
Retained in the playing eleven for the Afghanistan A clash on Wednesday (June 17), Sooryavanshi scored 38 runs off 28 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes before being dismissed.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was rewarded with a place in the Indian A squad following his record-breaking exploits in the IPL 2026 season.
Playing for Rajasthan Royals, the southpaw became the youngest-ever Orange Cap winner in the 2026 season, racking up 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.30 and hitting 72 sixes, while sweeping an unprecedented five major individual awards.
While Sooryavanshi’s IPL form was fairytale stuff, his transition to the Pathway Series in Sri Lanka has been a humbling learning curve. Before today’s game, he posted modest scores of 14, 44, and 21 in first three outings.
