India A lost a chaotic Super Over to Sri Lanka A after the regulation match ended in a tie in Dambulla on Monday (June 15).

The game rapidly descended into controversy, with heated post-match confrontations and the umpires reportedly backtracking on their understanding with India A to play despite deteriorating bad light.

After Sri Lanka A matched the total of 265 runs, India A skipper Tilak Varma spent around 10 minutes convincing the on-field umpires to go ahead with a Super Over as the officials were concerned about the fading light.

Sri Lanka A batted first in the Super Over and scored 16 runs, sparking immediate frustration from the Indian camp over disputed wide deliveries and a controversial final-ball waist-high no-ball.

Needing 17 to win, the India A pair of Suryansh Shedge and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi managed only 9 runs. Post-match tensions boiled over as Tilak was seen arguing with the umpires, while Sooryavanshi shoved one Sri Lanka A player after being sledged.

According to a latest report by Cricbuzz, the India A camp was left fuming after match officials, Prageeth Rambukwella and Shantha Fonseka, went back on their words and allowed the Super Over run chase to proceed in deteriorating light.

The umpires reportedly hinted and agreed that they would halt the match if the light worsened during India's chase.

Even though live TV footage showed that the light had reached unsafe levels, the umpires opted to play on and India A ultimately failed to chase down the target

A Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) official also admitted that the play shouldn't have been allowed to go in. “There should never have been a Super Over in the first place,” he told Cricbuzz.

India A has competed in three intense matches in the ongoing tri-series. The Tilak Varma-led side opened the campaign with a nervy 8-run win over Sri Lanka A. In a rain-affected second match against Afghanistan A, India A's massive 349/9 wasn't enough, as they fell short by 4 runs via the DLS method.

In the latest fixture against the hosts, India A fell short in the Super Over and they now need to beat Afghanistan A by a handsome margin in the last league match on June 17 to qualify for the final.
