Vaibhav Sooryavanshi got into a shoving contest at the end of a thrilling contest between India A and Sri Lanka A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla on June 15, 2026, in the ongoing tri-series. The incident happened after a dramatic super over in the match.

Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige, won the toss and chose to bowl first. And his decision was proved correct by his bowlers as India was reduced to 143/7, with Ruturaj Gaikwad (37), Tilak Varma (23), and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (21) being the main scorers.

Then Suryansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam got together to do the repair job and added 104 runs for the 7th wicket. Shedge made 72 in 66 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes, while Nigam made 51 in 49 balls with 6 fours. India was bowled out for 265 runs, with Mohamed Shiraz and Vijaykanth Viyaskanth taking three wickets each.

Sadeera Samarawickrama (93) led the Sri Lanka A chase, while Niroshan Dickwella (37) and Wanuja Sahan (25) played supporting roles. But Indian bowlers kept the pressure on Sri Lankan batters, and in a thrilling end, the match ended in a tie as the tailenders failed to score the 2 runs off the last ball.

After much arguing with the officials, India A managed to get the game into a super over, and Arshad Khan conceded 15 runs. In response, Suryansh Shedge made 3 runs in 3 balls, and though Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hit a four, India fell well short of the 16-run target as Kugathas Mathulan bowled perfect yorkers to give Sri Lanka A two points.

Shedge and Sooryavanshi were spotted getting into a furious confrontation with the players as Sri Lanka celebrated. Before being pulled from the host players by another Sri Lankan player, Sooryavanshi was also observed pushing one of them.

The video of the incident went viral on social media.

However, as per the PTI report, Sooryavanshi was not the instigator of the violence, as another video angle showed that it was the Sri Lanka A players whose incessant sledging led to the youngster losing his cool.

A new video shared by a fan on X also shows how, soon after the last ball, numerous Sri Lankan cricketers made a point of speaking to Sooryavanshi. Initially, the two batters walked away, but Shedge ultimately turned, and Sooryavanshi became involved.

Sooryavanshi went back to the pavilion, apparently unhappy that India had failed to chase the target in the fading light. It will be fascinating to watch whether match referee Pradeep Jeyapragash issues an official sanction or simply warns the players.
