Sooryavanshi is likely to make his India debut in T20Is on the tour of UK or in Asian Games.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was named in India’s T20I squad for the Ireland, England series and the Asian Games 2026 competition. If he makes his India debut, he will break Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the youngest international debutant for India.
Sooryavanshi set the IPL 2026 on fire with 776 runs at a strike rate of 236.30 with one century and five fifties to his name. He won the Orange Cap for most runs, Emerging Player of the season, and also broke the record for most sixes in a single IPL edition, hitting 72 maximums.
While BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar stated that Sooryavanshi basically “forced” them to select him, Ganguly was also excited to see the youngster performing for India and dealing with a different kind of pressure.
"I think we should let him be, he's just 15 years old, and I don't think he'll bother too much about pressure, and that's what we get to see him in the IPL. Obviously, playing for India is different, and he will be touring where the wickets will be a little different. It will seam and there will be a bit more bounce and a bit more movement with the new ball, so the game is a bit different, but I think he's got enormous talent," Ganguly told PTI.
So, Ganguly stated that the team management should let Sooryavanshi be himself and not put pressure on him.
"...so just let him be, don't expect the world from him straightaway. Just allow him to settle down because you know he's got a lot of talent like many others in India,” he added.
Sooryavanshi is currently with the India A team in Sri Lanka for the one-day tri-series.
