India will resume its international cricket commitment from June 6.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources have revealed to Cricbuzz that the Tests are likely to be played between August 15 and 29. But the report also revealed that there is no news about the 3 T20Is that were added to the tour later.
The two tests follow the Lanka Premier League (LPL), which ends on August 9, and information regarding the identified window has been provided to all parties in the series, including the Indian squad.
Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, traveled to Sri Lanka as part of an International Cricket Council (ICC) committee to investigate the situation in Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which was recently dissolved by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's government. Since then, the government has appointed an interim committee, the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee.
The members of the Transformation Committee might discuss the proposed series with Saikia while he is there, but scheduling the three games—which were initially suggested as a fundraiser for the victims of Cyclone Ditwah in November of last year—could be difficult because September will be a busy month for India.
The schedule for India in September is filled. A six-match white-ball series is scheduled in Bangladesh, comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is. The proposed tour of Bangladesh, if it takes place, will complicate the entire schedule.
In a recent media interview, Saikia suggested that the emphasis should stay on the upcoming matches and declined to comment on whether the Bangladesh series would proceed.
The tour of Bangladesh is a continuation of the series that was postponed last year due to tensions between the two nations. It is still unclear whether the series would eventually proceed, even though the diplomatic ice between Bangladesh and India appears to be starting to break.
The Bangladesh tour, if it happens, will be played after the home white-ball series against the West Indies. These will overlap with the Nagoya Asian Games, which will be held from September 9 to October 4. The cricket event in the Asian Games will be held between September 25 and October 3.
Amidst all this, India has to travel to the UAE in September to play three T20Is against Afghanistan as well.
Meanwhile, India will resume its international commitments from June 6, as they play a one-off Test against Afghanistan, which will be followed by 3 ODI games. The team will then tour Ireland, England, and Zimbabwe before traveling to Sri Lanka.
