Shubman Gill was dropped from India's T20I squad for New Zealand series and T20 World Cup 2026.
Shubman Gill, India’s ODI and Test captain, has confirmed his availability to the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) for two games of the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025 one-day tournament. The VHT 2025 will begin on December 24.
Shubman Gill will have time till the New Zealand ODI series that begins on January 11, after he was unceremoniously dropped from India’s T20I squad for the New Zealand T20Is and the T20 World Cup 2026 tournament.
Gill has reportedly confirmed to PCA about his VHT availability to play two games for Punjab on January 3 and January 6. Furthermore, Gill has shown keenness to play the remaining rounds of the Ranji Trophy.
"Shubman will be playing the two games in January—on the 3rd and 6th—before joining the team for the ODI series versus New Zealand. He also wants to play the remaining rounds of the Ranji Trophy for Punjab," a PCA official told the Times of India.
Gill will return to action for the List A games against Sikkim on January 3 and Goa on January 6. Both games will take place in Jaipur, and the 27-year-old opener will then join the ODI squad in Vadodara for the series against New Zealand.
The three-match ODI series concludes on January 18 in Indore, and Gill is anticipated to see some red-ball action in the remaining two rounds of the Ranji Trophy.
Punjab is scheduled to play Saurashtra from January 22 in Rajkot and then Karnataka in Mullanpur from January 29. If all stays on track, PCA is optimistic of having the services of the India Test captain in the last two group games. Punjab are currently sixth in Group B standings with just one win in five fixtures.
