Palak confirmed that Smriti-Palash's wedding got deferred because of cricketer's father's health.
Star playback singer Palak Muchhal on Monday (November 24) broke silence after her brother Palash’s wedding with Indian women’s team opener Smriti Mandhana got postponed due to the sudden hospitalization of the latter’s father.
The medical emergency in the family brought the wedding festivities to a halt, with the cricketer deciding against moving forward with the ceremony in her father's absence.
“Due to Smriti’s father’s health, Smriti and Palash’s wedding has been put on hold. We would request all of you to respect the privacy of the families during this sensitive time," Palak wrote on her Instagram story.
“Smriti’s father, Mr Shrinivas Mandhana, was having breakfast this morning and his health started deteriorating. We waited, thinking he would recover soon, but it did not improve," Mishra said.
“So we thought not to take any risk and called an ambulance and he has been taken to the hospital. He is under observation," Mishra added.
Meanwhile, Mandhana's family doctor, Dr. Naman Shah, said a medical team is monitoring the health condition of her father.
"At around 1.30 pm, Mr Srinivas Mandhana got left-sided chest pain, we call it 'angina' in medical terms. As the symptoms surfaced, his son called me, we sent an ambulance, he was shifted to hospital. We found out in ECG, other reports, that cardiac enzymes are elevated, hence we need to keep him in observation," Shah told PTI.
"Blood pressure is also elevated, efforts are on to lower it. The whole team is monitoring. If situation exacerbates, we will have to do angiography. Smriti and her family are in contact with us."
A week-long celebration was already going on in Sangli, Smriti Mandhana's hometown in Maharashtra, ahead of the much-anticipated marriage knot ceremony on Sunday.
Several members of the Women’s World Cup-winning Indian team were present during the wedding celebrations before the postponement.
The revised date for the wedding ceremony is not yet set and will depend on her father’s recovery.
