Shreyas had suffered spleen injury during the third ODI against Australia at SCG last month.
India batter Shreyas Iyer is all set to remain on the sidelines for an extended period as fresh medical assessments have advised him to avoid high-intensity training and follow a controlled rehabilitation roadmap.
Shreyas had landed awkwardly while taking a catch to dismiss Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey during the third ODI at SCG last month. He was immediately rushed to the hospital after scans ascertained a “laceration injury to the spleen.”
The 30-year-old had to undergo a minor procedure to control internal bleeding and was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for observation before being discharged once his condition stabilised.
According to a report published in India Today, Iyer is progressing well but will require another scan in two months before beginning formal rehab.
“He underwent an ultrasonography (USG) scan near his residence earlier this week, with the images reviewed by renowned sports medicine specialist Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala. The latest scan brought encouraging signs, with the doctor noting steady progress in Iyer’s healing,” the report stated.
“Based on the current assessment, Iyer has been cleared to resume normal daily activities and begin basic isometric exercises. However, he has been strictly advised to avoid any form of training that could elevate intra-abdominal pressure for at least the next month—an essential precaution to prevent aggravating the spleen injury,” it added.
As per the report, another USG scan will be carried out at the two-month mark. He will be allowed to begin rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru only after the results of the next scan.
Considering the timeline, Shreyas Iyer will remain out of action for a minimum of 2-3 more months. As a result, he is set to miss the upcoming ODI series against South Africa and New Zealand, while his participation in later assignments will depend on the swiftness of his recovery.
