Ganguly said he has enjoyed being part of the franchise over the last six seasons.
Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, who has long served as mentor and Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals, has hinted at taking up a coaching role with the IPL franchise from the 2027 season onwards.
Ganguly also remains deeply involved with DC's women’s team, notably representing the franchise at the auction table last year.
Speaking at a SA20 event, Ganguly said he has enjoyed being part of the franchise over the last six seasons. He credited Parth Jindal, DC co-owner and founder of JSW Sports, for his vision and leadership, and acknowledged his own role in shaping the team’s direction and performance.
“It’s been a great journey. I’ve been involved with the Delhi Capitals franchise across teams, including the WPL. Last season, I worked more behind the scenes — building squads, planning auctions, and tracking performances — although I wasn’t in the dugout for two years,” Ganguly stated.
“I worked with the IPL team in 2019 and 2020, and then rejoined more actively in the 2023 season after completing my tenure as BCCI President. When Parth took over the franchise in 2019, I was deeply involved in shaping its direction, and the team performed very well,” he added.
Sourav Ganguly has expanded his role with the Capitals, taking over as head coach of the Pretoria Capitals for the upcoming SA20 season. The 53-year-old said that after coaching Pretoria, he might consider a similar role in the IPL.
“This year, since someone else is overseeing the IPL side, I’ve had more time to focus on Pretoria Capitals. After discussions with Parth, I decided to commit fully for a month — being involved in day-to-day activities, managing wins and losses, and contributing during the auction,” Ganguly said.
“That’s why I’m working full-time with the franchise this year, and this involvement will continue into the upcoming IPL season as well. Parth’s passion for the game is evident from the many roles he’s taken on, and it’s been a great experience working with him,” he remarked.
Ganguly will be keen to turn around the fortunes of Pretoria Capitals in the upcoming SA20 season after the franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs in previous editions.
