India defeated Pakistan thrice, including in the final of the recent Asia Cup 2025.
Following India's victory over Pakistan last month, Suryakumar rejected the notion that the two sides still have a fierce rivalry. He said that as India has defeated Pakistan several times in a row since 2022, the results speak for themselves.
During the Asia Cup, Suryakumar had said, “I feel we should stop asking questions about the [India-Pakistan] rivalry. What matters is whether a team plays good cricket or not. According to me, if two teams play 15–20 matches and it’s 7-all or 8–7, then that’s a rivalry. But 13–0 or 10–1... I don’t know what the stats are, but this is no longer a rivalry.”
Notably, India had defeated Pakistan thrice in the recent Asia Cup 2025 tournament, including in the final on September 28 in Dubai, to win their ninth Asia Cup title.
Recently, on a podcast, Azam endorsed India captain Suryakumar Yadav’s statement that the India-Pakistan rivalry no longer holds the same edge. He acknowledged that India has been far ahead in terms of performance and consistency over the last few years.
“If you see the ICC tournaments, I think... I don’t know if I should say this, but technically he is correct,” Azam Khan said on the CricWick podcast.
