Shashank Singh plays for Punjab Kings in IPL.
Despite being 33, Shashank believes he is still young enough to play for India. He cited the example of Suryakumar Yadav, who is currently the captain of the T20I team and made his debut for India in March 2021 at the age of thirty.
“One prediction I have is that in the upcoming (T20) World Cup in India, I’ll be playing, and I’ll be winning games for the team. I don’t know how that will happen, but I am certain that it will.
“Surya hit Jofra (Archer) for six in his first match (innings), and now he’s the captain of the Indian team. Then there’s Pravin Tambe. He didn’t play for India, but at the age of 41, he made his IPL debut. Can you imagine that!” Shashank Singh told ESPNCricinfo.
Shashank Singh came into the spotlight for his batting in the IPL 2024 season. He played 14 games for the franchise, scoring 354 runs with a strike rate of 164.65, and then in IPL 2025, he continued his brilliant run of form, scoring 350 runs in 17 matches, with a strike rate of 153.53.
He has scored 773 runs in 41 games in the IPL, with a strike rate of 157.75, including five fifties and a best score of 68*.
The 33-year-old cricketer plays domestic cricket for Chhattisgarh, also made a daring prediction regarding the Punjab Kings, stating that they will win the IPL championship in 2026.
“If you ask me about the team, then Punjab is lifting next year's IPL for sure," he told ESPNCricinfo.
Shashank has previously stated on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel that PBKS would dominate the league table before the IPL 2025, and the Kings did just that under Shreyas Iyer's guidance.
They advanced to the final by defeating the Mumbai Indians in the second qualifying match on June 1 at Narendra Modi Stadium; however, they were defeated in the summit showdown by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Shashank also heaped admiration on PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, saying he is on a different level altogether.
“Shreyas is at a different level altogether. He has his own aura, a different mindset altogether. Won’t talk rubbish, won’t tolerate rubbish. When he bats in the nets, he knows what he is doing. If someone asks me, ‘Who is the best captain you have played under?’ Hands down, Shreyas Iyer.
And then Ricky, sir. He has made the game very simple. Cricket can be a complicated sport at times. If you ask a batsman, the leg shouldn’t go across, and the head shouldn’t fall, but Ricky Sir has simplified the game brilliantly,” Shashank had said.
