Dewald Brevis hit 225 runs in six games for CSK in IPL 2025.
Brevis was included in the CSK squad as a replacement for injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh, and he came to CSK for the amount of Rs 2.2 crore.
Many teams wanted to recruit Brevis as a replacement, but CSK got the job done by paying the player more following arduous negotiations with his agents, Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
According to Ashwin, players like Brevis are aware that they have the negotiating ability and would receive more than their base price at the auctions.
"I will tell you something. About Brevis. He had a great time last IPL with CSK. In fact, a few teams were talking to him. A few teams left him because of the price. When he was supposed to be signed as a replacement, he was supposed to be signed at the base price. But what happens is you talk to the agents, and the player will say, "If you give me X amount extra, I will come," R. Ashwin said on his YouTube video.
"That happens because the player knows if he is released next season, he will go for good money. So his concept was that you pay me good money now, or else I will go for more next year. And CSK was ready to pay him; hence, he came. In the back half, the CSK combination was strong. They will go with Rs 30 crore in the IPL 2026 mini auction," he added.
Chennai sorely needed to add new players because they were having trouble with their batting lineup in the competition. Brevis and Ayush Mhatre were brought in as substitutes, and the team paid off in the season's last few games.
Brevis scored 225 runs in 6 games during the 2024 Indian Premier League. He batted at a strike rate of 180 and scored two half-centuries.
