Before the suspension of the tournament, the iconic Eden Gardens was due to host the IPL 2025 final.
After the announcement of ceasefire, the IPL resumed with a rejigged schedule on May 17. The venues for the playoffs also changed, with the BCCI awarding the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator to Mullanpur’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium and Qualifier 2 and final to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
Before the suspension of the tournament, the iconic Eden Gardens was due to host the IPL 2025 final and Qualifier 2. But due to rain threat in Kolkata, the board shifted the last two games to Ahmedabad.
However, BCCI’s planning backfired when the Qualifier 2 between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians was delayed due to heavy rain at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday (June 1).
As a result, fans slammed the BCCI for their poor scheduling. Many pointed out that the weather in Kolkata is clear, and if the venues weren’t changed, Qualifier 2 would have proceeded without any disruption.
If Qualifier 2 gets abandoned due to rain, PBKS will progress to the finals due to the absence of a reserve day. Hence, rain might play spoilsport for MI, who reached the Qualifier 2 after beating Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator.
The winner of Qualifier 2 will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the title clash in Ahmedabad on June 3.
