Jasprit Bumrah has 18 wickets in 11 games for MI in IPL 2025.
Former India pacer Varun Aaron has lavished rich praise on Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah and said that he’s like an antidote to vaccine that can cure any illness.
In Friday's IPL 2025 Eliminator matchup between MI and the Gujarat Titans, Bumrah was instrumental. In a high-scoring match in Mullanpur, he made the difference.
Before Bumrah's accurate yorker hit the base of the stumps and dismissed Sundar, GT was keeping pace with MI in the chase, with opener Sai Sudharsan (80) and Washington Sundar (48) thriving in their third-wicket combination.
“He’s like an antidote, a vaccine that can cure any illness a bowling side can have," Aaron said on the ESPNCricinfo show Time Out.
After seeing a pivotal moment when the 31-year-old advised a nervous coach, Mahela Jayawardene, to calm down before bowling an impossible yorker in the 14th over against Washington, Aaron praised Bumrah's bravery and acknowledged his ability to adjust to any situation.
To completely change the game, Bumrah came from over the wicket, caught the left-hander on the shuffle, and broke the base of the leg stump.
“If you want wickets, he comes and gets you wickets. If you want to stop runs, he stops runs for you. Man, what a bowler. And the belief he has in his ability. You have an international coach [Mahela Jayawardene] who is panicking because his bowlers have suddenly started to go to the cleaners, and he just turns around and is like ‘Just calm down, I’ll do the job for you.’ Comes in, runs in, gets hit for a six, and then gets that ball,” Aaron said.
“For him to bowl from that angle is difficult. It’s easier for him to go wide to a left-hand batter, but for him to target that leg stump of Washington Sundar… Washi was setting up for something wide or something in his arc, but that was just impossible to negotiate,” he added.
Jasprit Bumrah has 18 wickets in 11 games in IPL 2025. The experienced seamer will remain MI’s greatest asset when they take on Punjab Kings on June 1 in Qualifier 2.
