Only two matches are remaining in the IPL 2025 to decide the champions.
The Indian Premier Legaue (IPL) 2025 season has reached its business end, with two matches left in the tournament to decide the champions.
Having won the Qualifier 1, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have already secured a place in the final, where they will face the winner of Qualifier 2 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Ahead of the second qualifier, former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has extended his support to MI, backing them to clinch the coveted title.
According to Dhawan, the five-time champions have been ‘playing very well’ and are a well-balanced team who have momentum on their side.
“This time, the IPL has been very exciting. For the finals, my support will be with Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai Indians team is playing really well — they are very balanced. The way they’ve gained momentum is outstanding, and they are a very strong and well-balanced team. So, I’m with Mumbai Indians," Dhawan was quoted as saying by India Today.
On a separate note, Dhawan commented on Shubman Gill’s appointment as India’s new Test captain. Gill will begin his stint with tour of England later this month.
“I feel it’s a great choice. Shubman has performed really well in the IPL recently. He is a great talent and has matured — he’s been playing for the Indian team for several years now. I feel he’s the perfect candidate to take on the Test captaincy, and I’m sure he will handle it well and lead the team together. This is the new generation now — Gen Z — and I’m confident he’ll do a great job. All my best wishes to him,” Dhawan added.
The five-Test series will get underway on June 20 in Leeds, marking the start of India’s 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle.
