Suryavanshi became the youngest-ever to make IPL debut at 14 years and 23 days.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the youngest-ever player sold in an IPL auction, made his debut for Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 19, 2025 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
The southpaw was selected for the RR team as an impact sub in place of injured skipper Sanju Samson. He made his IPL debut at 14 years and 23 days old, making him the youngest player to do so.
The teenage sensation made an early impression after opening the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. He smashed the first ball he faced from Shardul Thakur for a massive six over covers.
Suryavanshi scored 34 in 20 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes before being stumped by Rishabh Pant off Aiden Markram’s bowling. He was applauded by the Jaipur crowd as he walked back to the dugout.
As he walked off towards the dugout amidst applause from the Jaipur crowd, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was seen rubbing his eyes and everyone assumed that the youngster was heartbroken after getting out.
Almost a month later, Suryavanshi has now revealed that he didn’t cry on that day. His revelation came after Punjab Kings' Musheer Khan enquired about the same following their game on Sunday (May 18) in Jaipur.
“Arey kab roya main yaar? Arey kuch nahi, main batata hu. Aankh bahut dard kar raha tha (When did I cry? It was nothing like that, I am telling you. My eyes were paining a lot)," Suryavanshi was heard saying in a video shared by Rajasthan Royals on social media.
“Aur main out hote hi udhar hi screen k upar dekha. Aankh pe light padh gayi, aankh aise aise hua. Abhi main bahar gaya, log mere se puch rahe the ro kyu raha tha? Arey main nahi roya tha. Main jaa raha tha, aankh mein wo chala gaya (I looked at the screen as soon as I got out and the light went in, which caused some irritation. When I went out, everyone asked me why I was crying. I didn’t cry, it was the light)," he added.
Last month, Vaibhav Suryavanshi also hogged the headlines with his mind-blowing 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
The swashbuckling left-hander, at just 14 years and 32 days, became the youngest-ever batter to score a ton in the IPL. His 101-run knock off 38 balls, studded with seven boundaries and 11 sixes, paved the way for RR’s eight-wicket victory in the chase of 210 with 25 deliveries to spare.
During the course of his whirlwind knock, Suryavanshi broke Yusuf Pathan's 15-year-old record for the fastest IPL hundred by an Indian. His ton was the second fastest in the tournament history after Chris Gayle's century in 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013.
