The BCCI is yet to confirm the venues for the revised IPL 2025 playoffs.
The BCCI is yet to confirm the venues for the IPL 2025 playoffs after the tournament was suspended on May 10 due to escalating India-Pakistan tensions at the border.
The board recently released the revised schedule but the playoffs and final venues remain undecided.
As per the revised schedule, the IPL 2025 playoffs are scheduled to begin on May 29 with the title clash slated to be held on June 3. The BCCI has said that it will confirm the venues for the playoffs in due course.
Before the brief suspension of the cash-rich tournament, Kolkata was due to host the IPL 2025 final and the Qualifier 2. But due to possible logistical challenges and concerns about heavy rainfall in Kolkata during this period, the BCCI is mulling over shifting the matches to some other venue. Ahmedabad is being tipped to host the final but nothing has been confirmed yet.
However, Ganguly is confident that Eden Gardens will still host the final. “No, no, we’re trying – talking to the BCCI. Eto sohoje sore jawa jay? (Is it that easy to shift the final). It’s Eden’s playoffs, and I’m sure everything will be sorted. I’m very hopeful. Protest doesn’t help much. BCCI has a very good relationship with the Cricket Association of Bengal,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), which manages Eden Gardens in Kolkata, is currently led by Sourav Ganguly’s brother Snehasish Ganguly. Eden Gardens was initially awarded the playoff fixtures because the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lifted the IPL title last year.
Meanwhile, the KKR have been eliminated from the IPL 2025 playoffs race after their game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) was abandoned due to rain at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday.
Even though KKR are not in contention anymore, CAB officials would still want the playoffs to take place at Eden Gardens, given the big bucks that come with hosting any IPL game.
