Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Dewald Brevis’s dismissal became the talk of the town during the nail-biting IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Saturday (May 3).
Brevis, facing Lungi Ngidi on his very first ball, bagged a golden duck after being adjudged LBW by the on-field umpire.
It appeared like the umpire erred with the call, prompting the signal of a review by the young CSK batter. However, the South African was left dejected after being told that the time to review the call had run out.
As the ball struck his pads, it seemed like it was going down the leg side. However, Brevis took his time and had a discussion with his batting partner Ravindra Jadeja before making the DRS signal. As it turned out, he was denied the review.
Brevis and Jadeja even had a brief argument with the umpire after being told that the clock had run out. Replays later confirmed that the ball was indeed going down the leg side and missing the stumps by a big margin.
The DRS controversy proved to be fatal for CSK as they suffered a narrow two-run defeat against RCB to remain at the bottom of the points table.
The five-time champions faltered in the run chase of 214 despite heroic performances from Ayush Mhatre and Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 48-ball 94 and 44-ball 77*, respectively.
On the other hand, this victory propelled RCB to the top of the points table. They need one more win from the remaining three league fixtures to qualify for the playoffs.
