SRH were outplayed by GT at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
On Friday (May 2), Cummins lauded the fans in the stands after his IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost to the home side Gujarat Titans (GT) by 38 runs.
“It is an amazing venue to play. They are so nice and loud," SRH captain said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Asked to bat first, Shubman Gill scored a 38-ball 76 before Jos Buttler slammed 64 off 37 deliveries to propel the Titans to a mammoth 224/6 in 20 overs.
In reply, Abhishek Sharma (74 off 41) provided SRH a solid start but GT bowlers restricted the visitors at 186/6.
Cummins expressed disappoint over Sunrisers’ performance in all facets of the game. When asked what went wrong for them, Cummins said: “Couple of things."
“Our powerplay with the bat wasn’t too great. I was as guilty as anyone else. Probably let them get 20-30 extra runs. Maybe hang on to one or two catches. Again am guilty there. Chasing 200 looked a bit more realistic," he stated.
Asked about GT’s approach with the bat, Cummins replied: “They are class batters. They don’t do anything outlandish. If you bowl bad balls, they just put it away. We probably dished out too many bad balls. It is a really good wicket. Going for 140 in the last 14 overs was good on the bowling part. Sharma batted nicely. Nitish at the end. Left a little too much and too late for the batters."
With this loss, SRH’s playoff chances took a massive dent while GT inched closer to sealing a playoff berth by moving up to second spot on the IPL 2025 points table.
“We can cling on to some hope. Big auction last year. The core of the group will be there for three years. So, lots to play for," Cummins concluded.
