Dhoni is participating in the ongoing IPL at the age of 43.
Morrison, who was conducting the toss in CSK's home fixture against Punjab Kings, asked Dhoni whether he would continue playing in the 2026 season.
While Dhoni has given clear answers to Morrison in the past, he left the Kiwi broadcaster stumped with his hilarious response on Wednesday.
"Does that mean you are coming next year?" asked Morrison.
Dhoni replied with a smile: "I don't know... I am coming for the next game."
CSK find themselves in a difficult spot in IPL 2025, languishing at the bottom of the points table with just two wins from nine outings. Dhoni, who was handed back the captaincy midway through the season following an injury to Ruturaj Gaikwad, has failed to turn the team’s fortunes around so far.
“One of the things is the pride factor. Majority of the games you play at home. Home advantage is very important which we haven't been able to capitalise on,” Dhoni said at the toss.
“We've been a side where we don't make a lot of changes. But this season we've made a lot of changes. Reason is simple. If most of your players are doing well, then you chop and change 1-2 players. But this season it hasn't worked for us. It's also the first season after a fresh auction. So you have something in mind but you have to see where a batter is suited better,” he added.
With CSK struggling and in need of a major overhaul, it remains to be seen whether Dhoni will return to play for the side next year, when he will be 44.
