KKR asked to bat first, put on 204/9 in 20 overs.
The 48th match of the ongoing IPL 2025 saw Delhi Capitals (DC) hosting Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 29, 2025. DC won the toss and chose to bowl first.
KKR had a great start with openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (26) and Sunilk Narine (27) adding 48 runs in first 3 overs. Ajinkya Rahane (26 in 14), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (44 in 32) and Rinku Singh (36 in 25) pushed the final KKR score to 204/9. Andre Russell added 17 valuable runs at the end as well.
For DC, Mitchell Starc took 3/43, while Vipraj Nigam and Axar Patel took 2 wickets each as well.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has seen several catches being dropped and catch efficiency at an all-time low. But Dushmantha Chameera of Delhi Capitals, made what may have been the catch of the season on Tuesday when he dismissed Anukul Roy, a batter for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Mitchell Starc's final over of the KKR innings was where the drama took place. He dismissed Rovman Powell by pinning him at the front leg on the third ball of the 20th over. Starc then dismissed Roy for a duck on the very next ball, although Chameera should be credited with the wicket.
Roy flicked it in the direction of the deep backward square leg region as Starc bowled it full on the middle and leg. While the ball was going over the boundary ropes, Chameera flew in the air to his left and made a spectacular grab in midair to get the batter out. You don't witness superhuman efforts in the IPL every day, but this catch was unprecedented.
