Jasprit Bumrah went past Lasith Malinga's record of 170 IPL wickets and now has 174 scalps.
Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah became the most wicket-taking bowler for the franchise in IPL history as he went past Lasith Malinga’s record of 170 scalps when MI defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Mumbai in IPL 2025 on April 27 in Mumbai.
With his wickets column not reflecting how well he has bowled since his comeback, Bumrah reaped the benefits by returning with an amazing 4-0-22-4 record against the LSG.
Bumrah, who had been reserved for later stages, was introduced into the attack against a top-heavy Lucknow batting lineup, and he made an immediate breakthrough in the third over.
Bumrah nailed Aiden Markram (9) with accuracy, angling three balls straight at him, who then blasted the following one straight to Naman Dhir, attempting to fend off the strain.
Bumrah also dismissed David Miller, Abdul Samad and Avesh Khan for a duck, as Lucknow could manage 161 while chasing the 216-run target.
Bumrah has a bowling average of 22.64 and an economy of 7.31 in 139 games, while Malinga tallied 170 wickets in 122 games with an impressive economy of 7.14 and average of 19.79.
A video of ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah and former Sri Lanka bowler Lasith Malinga, who is currently the Mumbai Indians' bowling coach, has gone viral on social media, with the two calling each other the best in the business after Bumrah broke Malinga's franchise record for most wickets taken.
