Shubman Gill was pumped up after Sai Kishore took the wicket of Venkatesh Iyer.
Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill, who usually remains calm and composed during the field of play, gave a send-off to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer in the IPL 2025 match at the Eden Gardens on Monday (April 21).
During the 12th over of KKR's 200-run chase, GT spinner Sai Kishore tossed one up to Iyer, who went for a big slog sweep but was caught at deep square leg.
As soon as Washington Sundar completed the catch, Gill was pumped up. The Titans skipper screamed his lungs out and also hurled a few words before running to Kishore and thumping his chest.
After winning the match, Gill reflected on his aggressive celebration, saying that his emotions came out as it was an important moment in the game.
Venkatesh Iyer’s dismissal reduced the defending champions to 84/3 in 11.3 overs. KKR’s innings was eventually restricted to 159/8 as GT won the game by 39 runs to strengthen their position at the top of the points table.
"We were ahead in the game, but it's one thing to be ahead and another to close the game. Good teams when they are chasing or defending, close the game very well. So that was just some of my emotions coming out," Gill said at the post-match presentation.
Earlier, GT posted 198/3 on the board, courtesy of Gill’s 55-ball 90 and Sai Sudharsan’s 36-ball 52. Jos Buttler also played a valuable knock of 41* in just 23 balls.
"Very pleased. We spoke about these two matches - that they're going to decide where we stand on the table. Very pleased to get these two wins back to back," Gill added.
Shubman Gill has formed a formidable opening partnership with Sudharsan this season. They added 114 runs against KKR to lay the foundation of a big total.
"We just want to play our best game whenever we're out there. We never talk about that one of us has to stay till the end. We just talk about how we can score runs in these conditions and how to take the game deep," Gill remarked.
Gujarat Titans will next face Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday (April 28).
