DC lost their first match in 5 encounters, while MI won their first match after 4 straight losses.
The Delhi Capitals (DC) hosted the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for the 29th match of the IPL 2025. MI came into the game with 1 win in 5 matches, while DC is at the top of the table with 4 wins in 4 matches.
DC won the toss and chose to bowl first. MI managed to string some good scores and partnerships to post 205/5 in 20 overs. Tilak Varma top-scored with 59, while Ryan Rickelton (41), Suryakumar Yadav (40), and Naman Dhir (38*) contributed as well.
In response, the DC innings was all Karun Nair. Playing his first IPL match since 2020, Nair smacked 89 in 40 balls with 12 fours and 5 sixes. He also added 119 runs with Abishek Porel for the second wicket after Jake Fraser-McGurk was out for a golden duck.
Clearly primed for the win at 135/3, DC collapsed in a troubling fashion. Karn Sharma got three important wickets of Porel, KL Rahul, and Tristan Stubbs to set DC’s chase back. Ashutosh Sharma (17) and Vipraj Nigam (14) tried to keep the run chase on course, but three runouts in three balls of the 19th over sealed the deal for them.
DC was bowled out for 193 and lost the game to MI for 12 runs. This was DC’s first loss in IPL 2025 after 4 wins, and MI won their first match after 4 straight losses.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for Karun Nair’s excellent 89 on IPL return, but also lauded MI’s resilience to win the match out of nowhere.
