PBKS couldn't defend 245 runs against SRH in Hyderabad as the hosts won by 8 wickets.
Shreyas Iyer, captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), was incensed during their IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He was irate at the on-field umpire for accepting a DRS request from his teammate without consulting him.
The match was extremely high-scoring as Punjab Kings posted 245/6, with Shreyas Iyer top-scoring with 86, while Marcus Stoinis, Prabhsimran Singh, and Priyansh Arya scored in the 30s. Mohammad Shami went for 75 runs in his 4 overs, while Harshal Patel picked 4 wickets amidst the carnage.
In response, Travis Head (66) and Abhishek Sharma (141) pummeled the PBKS bowling, adding 171 runs for the first wicket for SRH in the huge chase. Ultimately, SRH won the game by 8 wickets and 9 balls to spare.
Glenn Maxwell was unhappy with the umpire's decision to give a wide on the second ball in the fifth over of the Sunrisers' 246-run chase at home. It was a flatter delivery down the leg side, and Maxwell believed Head made contact with the ball, but the umpire ruled it wide. The Australian all-rounder promptly requested a DRS check with the 'T' motion.
When the fielding team makes a DRS call, the on-field umpire always asks the team captain if the review should be conducted. However, on Saturday, the on-field match official overruled Iyer and accepted Maxwell's ruling, infuriating the Punjab skipper.
In a video that went viral on social media, Iyer can be seen mouthing, “Umpire, Pehle merese pucho na (ask me first).”
