Gaikwad suffered an elbow injury ruling him out of IPL 2025; MS Dhoni named CSK captain.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 after fracturing his elbow. In his stead, veteran MS Dhoni will take over the captaincy of the CSK team for the rest of the tournament.
It hasn’t been smooth sailing for the Chennai Super Kings lately. They are at the 9th spot in the IPL 2025 points table with only one win and 4 losses in 5 matches so far.
The CSK captain and opener reportedly suffered an elbow injury after being struck by a short ball from Jofra Archer during their encounter against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30, resulting in a fracture.
Gaikwad was officially ruled out of the IPL 2025 owing to the fracture, with MS Dhoni taking over as captain for the season.
Gaikwad, too, hailed the change, expressing his support for Dhoni, the 'young uncapped wicketkeeper' who will lead the Chennai franchise, in a video uploaded on CSK's social media.
‘Really gutted to be missing the future part of the IPL due to an unfortunate elbow injury. But, thank you for your support till now. Yes, we have been struggling for a while. But, you know, now that a young wicketkeeper is leading the team, hopefully, things will change,” Gaikwad said in a video by CSK.
Gaikwad also stated that he would be traveling with the CSK squad throughout the season and would continue to support his teammates from the sidelines.
“I’m going to be there with the team to support them. I definitely would have loved to take this team out of the current situation. But, some circumstances are not controllable. I’ll continue to support the team from the dugout, and hopefully, we’ll have a great season ahead,” he added.
