Dhoni will lead CSK for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. This comes after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament with a fractured elbow.
Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Rayudu felt sorry for Gaikwad but went on to claim that the Chennai fans will be excited to see Dhoni back at the helm.
Rayudu believes Dhoni can produce his magic and make CSK qualify for the playoffs despite a poor start to their season.
"First of all, it's very sad that Ruturaj, the captain of CSK has been ruled out of the IPL. But all the fans will definitely will be extremely excited to see MS Dhoni lead CSK again. He can always pull out his magic and make CSK qualify from here. It will be one great story. So, I am very, very excited and I just hope that he weaves his magic all over the CSK team," said Rayudu.
Robin Uthappa, another former CSK player, shared his thoughts on Dhoni coming back to the leadership role. He feels that there might be a few changes to the CSK team in the next few days.
"He is going take control at the helm again. He stayed in the background completely and allowed Fleming and Ruturaj to kind of build their chemistry. Now he comes back to the fore. You will see a few changes I suspect in the next couple of days and the game against KKR," said Uthappa.
MS Dhoni will lead the Super Kings against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk on Friday (April 11). His last game as CSK captain was the IPL 2023 final.
Under Dhoni's captaincy, CSK have won five IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023 and two Champions League trophies. However, he will have his task cut out this time around, with the five-time champions languishing at the ninth position in the 10-team points table after losing four out of their five league matches so far.
