Shreyas Iyer made 243 runs in 5 innings for India in Champions Trophy 2025.
Shreyas Iyer was part of India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph in Dubai. India remained undefeated in the tournament, beating Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia, and then New Zealand again in the final to clinch their third Champions Trophy title.
Iyer had returned to the Indian ODI team during the England series before the CT 2025 and performed well enough to be included in the Champions Trophy squad. He revealed that he cried after his first net session in Dubai, as he couldn’t time the ball at all and didn’t feel right.
Currently leading the Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, Shreyas Iyer stated that he was in tears after his first practice session in Dubai, wondering how he would turn things around.
Shreyas had traveled to Dubai following a good performance against England at home and was expected to maintain the momentum, but he was left upset, irritated, and in tears during India's first practice session as he struggled to adjust to the circumstances there.
On the Kandid with Kings show, Shreyas was asked when the last time he cried, and to everyone's surprise, the batsman chose the Champions Trophy.
“Last time I cried was during the Champions Trophy, first practice session. Like literally crying, crying. Because I batted in the nets, and it didn’t go well. I was so angry with myself that I started crying. And I was also shocked at the fact that I don’t cry that easily,” he said.
However, as the tournament began, Shreyas established himself as one of India's most dependable batters, scoring crucial runs that cemented his place in the middle order. With 243 runs in 5 innings, he was India's leading run scorer in the event, which the country won undefeated. However, when Shreyas arrived in Dubai, he spoke about his problems.
“I thought I would carry the same flow with me (from England series), but the wickets were different and to adapt on the first day itself was an arduous task. When the practice ended, I wanted to practice a little extra, and I did not get the chance to do it, so I got angry,” he said.
