RCB moved to 3rd spot, while MI slipped to 8th spot in IPL points table.
The 20th match of the IPL 2025 featured the Mumbai Indians (MI) hosting the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 7, 2025, at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. RCB came into this match on the back of 2 wins in 3 games, while MI had one win in 4 matches.
Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided MI would bowl first. Jasprit Bumrah returned to action for MI, while RCB fielded the same lineup.
Trent Boult bowled Phil Salt out for 4 runs with the second delivery of the opening over, while Devdutt Padikkal (37) and Virat Kohli combined for 91 runs for the second wicket. Virat Kohli scored 67 runs with eight fours and two sixes before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya.
Following his dismissal, RCB surged with skipper Rajat Patidar (64 with 5 fours and 4 sixes) and Jitesh Sharma (40* in 19 balls with 4 sixes and 2 fours), finishing with a solid total of 221/5. For MI, Hardik Pandya and Trent Boult each claimed two wickets.
Rohit Sharma looked good in reply but got out for 17 runs. Ryan Rickelton also was dismissed for 17 runs as MI’s opening woes continued. Will Jacks (22) and Suryakumar Yadav (28) set up the platform to launch an assault, and Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya just did that.
Varma made 56 in 29 balls, hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes, while Pandya smashed 42 in 15 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. Two of Hardik’s sixes came off brother Krunal’s bowling. The duo added 89 of 34 balls to bring MI back in the game.
However, just as it looked like MI had it covered, Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Tilak Varma, and Josh Hazlewood got rid of Hardik Pandya to get RCB back in the game.
Krunal Pandya successfully defended 19 runs in the final over, taking three wickets as RCB won the game by 12 runs. This was the first time since IPL 2015 that RCB won against MI in Mumbai.
Krunal Pandya picked 4/45, while Yash Dayal took 2/46 for RCB.
MI has now lost 4 out of its 5 matches and is at the 8th spot, while RCB has 3 wins from 4 matches and is at the 3rd spot in the points table.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for the RCB team and lauded the complete effort by the squad on social media.
