Rabada featured in GT's matches against Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians.
In a major setback for the Gujarat Titans (GT), South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has flown back home from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) owing to personal reasons.
While the Titans confirmed the development on Thursday (April 3), they didn’t mention the duration of Rabada’s absence from the cash-rich tournament, where he has played two matches.
“Kagiso Rabada has returned to South Africa to deal with an important personal matter,” GT said in a statement.
Rabada featured in the games against Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, returning with figures of 1/41 and 1/42 respectively.
The 29-year-old was left out of the playing XI in GT’s last fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday.
Arshad Khan was picked in the line-up in place of Rabada, and the left-arm quick claimed the prized scalp of Virat Kohli early in the innings.
In the absence of Rabada, the IPL 2022 champions could be relying on his Proteas teammate Gerald Coetzee or Afghanistan all-rounder Karim Janat.
