Rishabh Pant was bought by LSG in IPL 2025 auction for INR 27 crores.
This was the fourth time in IPL history, that PBKS won both their opening matches in IPL.
LSG batted first in their match against PBKS and struggled to 171/7, with Nicholas Pooran (44) and Ayush Badoni (41) being the main scorers. Arshdeep Singh picked three wickets for PBKS.
In response, Prabhsimran Singh hammered 69, and Shreyas Iyer made 52* as PBKS won the game by 8 wickets in 16.2 overs.
After Tuesday's play at the Ekana Stadium, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka approached PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, who scored the match-winning fifty, and hugged him before engaging in a lengthy conversation.
In the fight of the two record signings in IPL history, Pant, who was signed for INR 27 crore at the auction last year, 25 lakhs more than Iyer, lost out.
His poor performance with the bat continued, scoring only two runs off five balls. He has only managed 17 runs from 26 balls in three innings.
After speaking with Iyer, Goenka approached Pant and engaged in an impassioned discussion. Several times throughout the conversation, Goenka pointed his finger at Pant. Visuals also showed Goenka seemingly criticizing Pant in the dressing room with mentor Zaheer Khan looking at them.
