Goenka had an extended conversation with Pant after DC's heartbreaking one-wicket defeat.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka had a lengthy chat with captain Rishabh Pant following their heartbreaking one-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam on Monday (March 24).
Chasing 210 to win, the Capitals were reeling at 7/3 in the second over and limped to 116/6 after 13 overs, but Ashutosh Sharma’s whirlwind knock, 66* off 31 deliveries with five sixes and as many boundaries, took them over the line with three deliveries to spare.
After the game, Goenka had an extended discussion with Pant and head coach Justin Langer in the team’s dugout.
The video of the incident has gone viral on the internet as fans were reminded of Goenka’s animated conversation with former LSG skipper KL Rahul in the 2024 edition.
We all know how it ended. Rahul was released by LSG ahead of last year’s mega auction, where the franchise signed Pant for the leadership role.
Here’s how the fans reacted to Goenka and Pant’s interaction:
Coming to the match, LSG batted first and posted 209/8 on the board as Rishabh Pant was dismissed for a six-ball duck. Mitchell Marsh (72) and Nicholas Pooran (75) were the top scorers for Lucknow.
In reply, Ashutosh pulled off a heist for the Delhi Capitals. He was ably supported by Tristan Stubbs (34 off 22) and Vipraj Nigam (39 off 15) during the chase.
Speaking after the defeat, Rishabh Pant said: “I think our top-order batters played really well and I think it was a pretty good score on this wicket. As a team we are looking to take positives from every match and as a team we are looking to learn from it (every match.) The more basics we do right, the more it is going to be better for us in the future. We got early wickets, but we knew it was a good wicket to bat on. We had to keep doing the basics right more often than not.”
“I think they had a couple of good partnerships. One with Stubbs, with Ashutosh and one with one other guy (Vipraj Nigam.) I think he (Nigam) did a pretty good job and took the game away from us. There was enough for the bowlers, but I think we could have done the basics right. We felt the pressure, we are still settling in, but a lots of positives to take from this match,” he added.
