CSK defeated MI by four wickets in their opening match of the season.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opened their IPL 2025 campaign with a four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday (March 23).
Asked to bat first, MI posted a modest 155/9 on the board. It was a disappointing performance with the bat as no one managed to touch the 30-run mark. Stand-in Suryakumar Yadav was the top scorer with 29 while Deepak Chahar played a cameo of 28* in the death overs.
Wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad starred with the ball for CSK, claiming four wickets by conceding 18 runs in his four overs. Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed (3-29 in 4 overs) also returned with three scalps.
In reply, CSK overhauled the target in 19.1 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Ravindra Jadeja (65* off 45) and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (53 off 26).
Debutant Vignesh Puthur’s performance was the only silver lining for MI in this match. The left-arm wrist-spinner from Kerala took three wickets by conceding 32 runs in his four overs. Gaikwad, Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda were his victims.
After the game, CSK icon MS Dhoni appreciated Puthur’s effort with the ball. He patted on the shoulder of the youngster and had a little conversation with him.
MS Dhoni’s heartwarming gesture won the hearts of the fans and it drew him a lot of praise.
