Shardul Thakur, who went unsold in the 2025 auction, is expected to return to the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025). The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are likely to incorporate him into their roster.
According to the Times of India, Shardul will replace left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan, who has been out due to an ACL injury followed by a calf strain.
While an official declaration is anticipated, the source states that Shardul has already been notified of the decision and will accompany the squad to Visakhapatnam for their first encounter against the Delhi Capitals.
Mohsin injured his ACL in December, which prevented him from bowling. When he resumed bowling in the Lucknow nets, he experienced calf pain.
With their core group of pacers still healing at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, management was compelled to decide on an injury replacement.
The India-heavy pace assault includes Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, and Mayank Yadav, but all have yet to join the Indian Premier League side. While the former and latter are at the CoE, Avesh has yet to rejoin the team following his knee injury.
Mayank Yadav has started bowling at a lower intensity in the nets, but he is still a long way from being match-fit. Mayank's body has been through a lot, from a side strain to a hamstring to an issue with his left back and now his right back, and he has yet to play a competitive game in the last five months.
Even if Mayank is given the go-ahead by the CoE to join Lucknow, he will have to put in a lot of effort to play the entire season.
In the absence of their core pacers, Thakur will now be leading the group as he is the most experienced bowler in the setup.
