The 2025 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is due to begin on March 21, with Eden Gardens staging both the event opener as well as the final on May 25, ESPNCricinfo reported.

According to the report, the window for the 2025 season was reserved between March 15 and May 25. However, with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final scheduled for March 9, the IPL has decided to keep close to a two-week gap between the tournaments.

As has been the trend, the home venue of the defending champions will host the opening match and the summit clash, which this time will be Eden Gardens as Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL 2024.

The 2025 season will feature 74 matches, the same as the last three editions. That number is 10 less than the 84 listed by IPL in 2022 when the media rights for the 2023–27 cycle were sold.

In the tender document for the new rights cycle, IPL had mentioned varying number of matches for each season. 74 games each were listed for 2023 and 2024 while 84 matches each were supposed to be played in 2025 and 2026 editions. The tender also included 94 matches in the IPL 2027.

As per the report, the Women’s Premier League 2025 will take place February 7 and March 2. The Indian board has opted to add two new venues for the WPL.

In addition to Mumbai and Bangalore, the WPL matches will also be played in Baroda and Lucknow this season. The exact number of matches at each venue is not known as the schedule is yet to come out.
