The highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction’s day one is being held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24, 2024. As many as 577 players are up for grabs for 204 open spots, as all ten organizations try to finalize their rosters before the league's 18th season.

The second set of the day saw Jos Buttler being the first name out for auction. His base price was INR 2 Cr, and that began a bidding war between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT). RR and GT continued to raise their paddles and soon the amount crossed INR 8 Crs.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) also stepped in, but the war remained between RR and GT with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) also making an appearance. However, GT won in the end, with a huge bid of INR 15.75 Crs.

The second name was that of Mitchell Starc, whose record for most expensive player was broken by Shreyas Iyer. The bidding started with Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Then DC came on board after MI bowed out and escalated the bids.

DC then had some battle with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as KKR pulled out. The final bid was raised to INR 11.75 Crs and Starc was bought by Delhi Capitals.

The third name was Rishabh Pant, and everyone was waiting for him. LSG and RCB began the bidding process and the amount was raised to 10.50 Cr. That’s when Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) came in and messed with LSG. LSG made the final bid of INR 20.75 Cr.

Delhi used their RTM card and LSG was asked to raise their bid and they made the bid of INR 27 Cr. Delhi declined and Rishabh Pant was sold to LSG for INR 27 Cr, breaking Shreyas Iyer’s record for the most expensive player in IPL history.
