BCCI and IPL franchise owners met on July 31 at BCCI headquarters.
Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials met on Wednesday (July 31) to discuss multiple issues keeping in mind the IPL 2025 season.
The main things on the agenda were player retentions, the Right-to-Match card, and the auction format. The majority of the franchise owners were present in person for the meeting excluding the Ambanis of Mumbai Indians who joined in virtually from Paris.
Reports emerged that franchises couldn’t agree on the number of players that should be retained which in turn affects the magnitude of the auction.
It was also reported that Shah Rukh Khan, principal owner of defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, was not keen on a mega auction and wanted maximum retentions to be allowed. On the other hand, Punjab Kings’ Ness Wadia wished for minimal retentions and a mega auction.
This led to a heated argument between the two, Cricbuzz reported.
However, Wadia has cleared that there was no such incident at all during the meeting.
“I have known Shah Rukh much before the IPL started. I know his family and I have the utmost regard for him and the family. We go back a long way and there’s absolutely no truth to such baseless reports,” Wadia told Sportstar.
The PBKS co-owner didn’t reveal any details from the meeting but said it was a good “brainstorming session” with all parties sharing their views and opinions.
“I am not going to say that… everyone gave their views and everyone gave their opinions. As I said, you have to look at all stakeholders. It was a very good brainstorming session…. our objective is that fans are happier, the media is happier, and cricketers are happier. That’s why we were here. Impact player, capped, uncapped player everything was discussed,” said Wadia as per CricketNext.
