Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, all teams are set to undergo a major overhaul as mega-auction will take place later this year.

While there is no clarity yet on the number of retentions each franchise will be allowed, rumours about possible moves in some of the teams have already started.

If speculations are true, Glenn Maxwell is likely to leave the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The Australian all-rounder has apparently unfollowed the franchise on social media platform Instagram.

Maxwell was signed by RCB ahead of the IPL 2021 for a hefty sum of INR 14.25 crores. He lived up to the expectations in his very first season, amassing 513 runs in 15 matches with six half-centuries.

Maxwell was retained for the next season. Although his performance took a dip in 2022, scoring 301 runs in 13 games with a solitary fifty, he bounced back to score 400 runs in 14 matches last year.

However, Maxwell failed to do justice to his exceptional ability in 2024 as he managed to score only 52 runs in 10 games.

On Tuesday (July 30), fans started speculating about Maxwell's intention to leave the RCB camp after screenshots emerged on social media showing that the Aussie cricketer unfollowed the franchise on Instagram.

Earlier this month, Dainik Jagran reported that RCB will be looking for an Indian option as a captain and that KL Rahul seems a likely candidate to fill the position.

The report also claimed that Rahul is not in good terms with Lukcnow Super Giants owner Sanjeev Goenka anymore. Speculations about Rahul's move began after a video went viral on social media showing Goenka having an argument with the team captain after LSG’s loss to SRH during an IPL 2024 game.

Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has been leading RCB for the past three seasons. Du Plessis, 40, doesn’t have an age on his side and thus, the Bengaluru-based franchise might be looking for a new captain.
