Dhoni had come out of dugout for handshakes, but seeing RCB's celebration, went back.
MS Dhoni, the legendary Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player, was seen walking back to the dressing room instead of shaking hands with players after CSK lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Saturday in the IPL 2024 match.
With this loss, CSK was eliminated from the race for the playoffs and RCB qualified for the final spot in top four.
The interesting encounter was billed as the ‘last dance’, as it was quite possibly the last time MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli would share the field together.
RCB batted first and thanks to Faf du Plessis’ 54 and 47 by Virat Kohli, plus contributions by Glenn Maxwell, Rajat Patidar, Cameron Green and Dinesh Karthik, RCB posted 218/5.
In response, despite losing early wickets including captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for a golden duck, CSK was buoyed by Rachin Ravindra’s 61 and Ajinkya Rahane’s 33. Ravindra Jadeja (42*) and MS Dhoni (25) tried their best, but CSK was kept to 191/7 and RCB won by 27 runs to make it into the playoffs.
In a blink-and-miss moment, when RCB won, Dhoni stood up in the dugout to shake hands with the opposition. However, as RCB's emotional celebrations erupted and they took their time wrapping things up, Dhoni turned back and walked away.
While shaking hands with some of the reserve players and support staff in the dugout, Dhoni quietly left without exchanging pleasantries with Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Mohammed Siraj, and other RCB players.
It was evident when Kohli and Co. shook hands with everyone from the CSK camp, barring Dhoni.
