MS Dhoni has led CSK to five IPL title and two Champions League T20 trophy wins.
On Sunday, the Chennai Super Kings romped to a 5-wicket win over RR and took a step closer to a berth in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs. With 14 points and a net run rate of +0.528 thanks to wins in 7 out of 13 games, CSK is placed third in the points table.
However, if somehow CSK fails to make it into the playoffs for some reason, MS Dhoni has most likely play his final game at home in Chepauk in Chennai.
Talking about MS Dhoni’s popularity in Chennai, former CSK cricketer Ambati Rayudu said that in the coming time, temples will be made for MS Dhoni as he is the God of Chennai.
“He is the God of Chennai and I am sure, temples of MS Dhoni would be built in the years to come in Chennai. He is someone who brought India the joy of two World Cups and has brought Chennai joy with a lot of IPL and Champions League titles.
He has just been that one guy who shows belief in his players, and who has always done it for the team, for the country, and CSK. He is a legend and someone everybody celebrates in the crowd. They might be thinking that this might be his last game in Chennai,” Rayudu told Star Sports.
Apart from 5 IPL titles to his name for Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni also won the Champions League T20 twice.
After their win over RR, CSK players including Dhoni and support staff took a victory lap at the Chepauk, acknowledging the crowd for their support this season. The crowd also showed their admiration towards Dhoni and the Yellow Army for entertaining them.
CSK will play their final league game against RCB in Bengaluru on Saturday.
