The Shreyas Iyer-led squad was returning to Kolkata following their 98-run triumph over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday (May 5).
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the franchise shared a detailed account of the ordeal.
"Travel update: KKR's charter flight from Lucknow to Kolkata diverted to Guwahati due to bad weather. Flight currently standing at the Guwahati Airport tarmac. More updates soon," read the first post.
"Update at 1:20 AM: Flight diverted to Varanasi after another failed attempt at landing in Kolkata due to bad weather. Current status: At the Lal Bahadur Shastri International airport tarmac," the next update stated.
As per the latest update, the Knight Riders boarded another flight on Tuesday (May 7) afternoon after staying in Varanasi overnight.
"Update: Finally, after Lucknow, Guwahati, Varanasi... We are on our way back to Kolkata," the final update read.
Kolkata Knight Riders moved to the top of the IPL 2024 points table with an emphatic victory over Lucknow Super Giants.
With 16 points from 11 games, KKR already have a foot in the door as far as qualifying for the playoffs is concerned. They have a net run rate of +1.453 and there are still three league-stage matches remaining for them.
