Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir has become a target of cricket fans for his alleged ‘hypocrisy’ over his post for Sunil Narine.

Sunil Narine hit his maiden IPL and T20 century for KKR in their recent IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals. Narine slammed 109 runs with 13 fours and 6 sixes to his name, as he powered KKR to 223/6 in 20 overs. Apart from Narine, Angkrish Raghuwanshi (31) and Rinku Singh (20*) also made vital contributions.

However, Jos Buttler thumped Narine's century with a masterful 107* of his own as he single-handedly powered RR to a 2-wicket win. RR completed an IPL record chase of 224 runs on the final ball of the match.

Despite the loss, Gautam Gambhir remained upbeat and wrote a Shah Rukh Khan-esque caption to his post, congratulating one of his favorite players, Sunil Narine.

There was, there is, there will be…only one!”- Gambhir posted on X with a photo of Sunil Narine

However, a user on X shared Gautam Gambhir’s statement which he had given on the eve of KKR's match against Lucknow Super Giants.

Gambhir had said he doesn't care about individual performances when asked about poor performances by Mitchell Starc.

IPL 2024: “IPL is a different beast”- Mitchell Starc criticized by Ian Bishop and Mitchell McClenaghan for his 0/50 v RR

Gambhir had said: "There's no reason why you should talk about individual performance. I feel that Mitchell Starc has done reasonably okay. I think he's bowled some tough overs. And he will create an impact, what he's been picked for. Tomorrow it might be a completely different day. Or probably going forward, it could be a completely different day. An individual can have a brilliant performance and the team doesn't end up winning.”

The fans latched onto this statement of Gautam Gambhir and slammed him for his hypocrisy for not focusing on Starc’s individual poor returns, but celebrating Narine’s brilliant ton.
