CSK will next face MI and KKR will clash with LSG on April 14.
CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and chose to bowl first. Despite losing Phil Salt on the first ball of the match, Sunil Narine (27) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (24) got KKR off to a blazing start, scoring 56 runs in 6 overs. However, once they were out, CSK tightened the screws on the KKR batting.
Shreyas Iyer (34) did his best, but CSK's bowling held KKR to 137/9 in 20 overs. Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja each claimed three wickets, with Mustafizur Rahman picking up two.
In response, Rachin Ravindra got out after a breezy 15 runs, but Ruturaj Gaikwad anchored one end and remained unbeaten. Daryl Mitchell (25) and Shivam Dube (28) contributed to the cause, but the CSK skipper’s 67* with 9 fours took the team past the finish line in 17.4 overs with 7 wickets in hand.
Ravindra Jadeja was named the Player of the Match for his 3 wickets and 2 catches.
KKR will next face Lucknow Super Giants at Eden Gardens on Sunday, April 14, while CSK will clash with MI on the same day in the evening match with MI in Mumbai.
The cricket fraternity was appreciative of the performance from CSK bowlers and batters and lauded them on social media.
