Shubman Gill represented KKR from 2018 to 2022 before getting released by the franchise.
Sheeran shared a glimpse of the same on Instagram and has uploaded the video on his YouTube channel. In the video, Gill can also be seen asking the singer to convey a message to Bollywood actor and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner Shah Rukh Khan.
During the meal, Sheeran said he was going to meet Shah Rukh for dinner. To which, Shubman, who represented KKR from 2018 to 2022 before getting released by the franchise, cheekily replied: “Ask him why he did not retain me?”
Shubman Gill was picked by KKR in the IPL 2018 auction after his heroics for the India U-19 team in the youth World Cup that year. He remained with the franchise till IPL 2021 and played 58 games for them, scoring 1417 runs with 10 half-centuries.
Gill played as a finisher in the beginning before going on to opening the innings for them. He was let go by the KKR franchise ahead of the mega auction in IPL 2022 and was picked by Gujarat Titans outside the auction.
“The kind of bond I have with the KKR franchise is something really special to me,” Gill had said in a short-film titled ‘Love, Faith and Beyond’. “Once you’re associated with a franchise you would want to carry on and play with them forever… And if I would be able to play in purple and gold, I would play forever.”
Playing for GT, Shubman Gill amassed 483 runs in the team’s title-winning campaign in 2022 while he finished as the leading run-scorer last season, scoring 890 runs at a strike rate of 157.80 with three centuries.
In the ongoing IPL 2024 edition, Gill has made 164 runs from four inning so far, which includes a score of 89* against the Punjab Kings.
