Mumbai Indians’ (MI) pacer Gerald Coetzee shattered the record for the fastest delivery this IPL 2024 season. The record was set by LSG debutant Mayank Yadav a couple of days ago against PBKS, but Coetzee has now acquired the record for himself in the latest match against RR in Mumbai on Monday.

Mayank Yadav had made an immediate impression with the ball in his first outing in IPL as he consistently bowled over 150 kph and bowled a 155.8 kph delivery to PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan. His stellar middle-over spell comprised nine 150-plus thunderbolts and three wickets, for 27 runs, as the cricket fraternity watched the young Indian pacer in awe.

On Monday, Coetzee breathed fire as MI tried to defend a paltry target of 126 runs. As Riyan Parag was shepherding RR's chase after early wickets, Coetzee bowled a snorter at 157.4 kph on the last ball of RR’s chase. The delivery was faced by Riyan Parag, who had just completed a match-winning fifty.

The ball went over Parag and keeper Ishan Kishan’s head and went for a boundary.

Coetzee narrowly missed the record for the fastest ball ever in IPL history, which was bowled by Shaun Tait. Tait bowled a delivery at 157.7 kph in the 2011 IPL while playing for RR and was faced by Aaron Finch, who then played for Delhi Capitals.

Fastest deliveries in IPL history:

Shaun Tait 157.71 kmph - 2011

Gerald Coetzee 157.4 kmph - 2024

Lockie Ferguson 157.3 kmph - 2022

Umran Malik 157 kmph - 2022

Anrich Nortje 156.22 kmph - 2020
