Young Talents Ready to Shine in the IPL 2024
The 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is expected to feature several young Indian stars, as it has since its inaugural edition in 2008.
The focus will mostly be on the big names in Indian cricket and from around the world. But there are a few talented young players, who could set the stage on fire in IPL 2024.
Franchises did their research and went hard at some of the fresh faces in the auction that took place last year in December.
Let’s take a look at some of the Uncapped players to watch out for in IPL 2024:
Sameer Rizvi is one player to look out for after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) shelled out INR 8.40 crore for the young batter from Uttar Pradesh. CSK had to indulge in an intense bidding war with the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) before securing his services.
In 11 T20 matches, Rizvi has scored 295 runs at an average of 49.16 and a strike rate of 134.70 with 2 fifties and a top score of 75 not out to his name. Last month, the youngster showed his class after he scored a triple hundred while playing in the Colonel CK Nayudu Trophy.
Against Saurashtra, he scored 312 runs off 266 balls with 33 fours and 12 sixes. Rubbing shoulders with MS Dhoni, Devon Conway, and others in CSK can do wonders for him.
Arshin Kulkarni (Lucknow Super Giants)
Arshin Kulkarni is set to play for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after being bought at his base price of INR 20 lakhs. The all-rounder, who idolizes Hardik Pandya, is a handy addition to the LSG setup for the upcoming season of the T20 league.
Kulkarni was impressive in the Under 19 World Cup 2024 for India. In 7 matches, he scored 189 runs at an average of 27 and a strike rate of 71.32. He also racked up a hundred against the United States of America (USA).
Kulkarni also picked up 4 wickets from 5 innings at an impressive economy rate of 3.94. Recently, the 19-year-old cricketer made his first-class debut for Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy 2024 where he scored 60 runs and picked up 2 wickets.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) roped in youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi at his base price of INR 20 lakhs. The 18-year-old has played 7 T20Is in which he scored 138 runs at an average of 23 and a strike-rate of 115.96 with a top score of 32.
In 5 List A matches, the Young Turk has racked up 133 runs at an average of 26.60 and a strike rate of 98.51 with a top score of 57. Raghuvanshi is yet to play first-class cricket for Mumbai, who recently qualified for their 48th final in the history of the Ranji Trophy.
Raghuvanshi can gain a lot of knowledge by playing alongside the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Jason Roy, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and other big names in the Knight Riders. If he eventually makes it to the playing XI it will be advisable to check who will win today’s match analysis from the experts.
Robin Minz (Gujarat Titans)
Gujarat Titans bought Robin Minz for a price of INR 3.60 crores. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) also tried to grab hold of the youngster in an intense bidding war, but it was the Titans, who had the last laugh.
The 21-year-old wicketkeeper is yet to make his debut in first-class, List A, or T20 cricket, but is deemed as a bright prospect in Indian cricket. Hailing from Jharkhand’s Shimal village in Gumla district, Minz is the first Adivasi to play in the IPL.
Jharkhand cricketer Ishank Jaggi hailed Minz as the “next big thing” in Indian cricket. Minz plies his trade at the Sonnet Cricket Club in Ranchi. One of his coaches, Chanchal Bhattacharya, called him “the next MS Dhoni”.
Kumar Kushagra (Delhi Capitals)
Delhi Capitals (DC) bought young batter Kumar Kushagra for a huge price of INR 7.20 crore. They had to fight hard with the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a bidding war before securing his services.
The wicketkeeper has been a part of the Jharkhand domestic team for 3 years and has gained experience. After making his debut at the age of 16, he has played 19 first-class, 23 List A and 11 T20 matches.
In T20 cricket, he has scored 140 runs at an average of 15.55 and a strike rate of 117.64 with a top score of 33 to his name. Back in February, he also played for India A in their 4-day match against England Lions at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Although it would be tough for him to break into DC’s playing XI right away in IPL 2024, he can be groomed into a force to be reckoned with.
