The much-awaited IPL 2024 season got underway on March 22. Since the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to take place this year, the BCCI has released the fixtures of 21 matches so far.

While the Indian board is yet to unveil the remaining schedule, a PTI report has claimed that the IPL final will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai tentatively on May 26.

The report also suggests that the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will stage one Qualifier and one Eliminator while another Qualifier will be held in Chennai.

"The IPL Governing Council has followed the tradition of holding the opening game and final at the home venue of last year's defending champions -- in this case Chennai Super Kings," PTI quoted a senior BCCI official as saying.

With the legendary MS Dhoni possibly playing his last IPL season, knockout fixtures in Chennai will certainly be a treat for all the 'Thala' fans.

Earlier, it was reported that some of the BCCI officials are in UAE to ‘explore the possibility’ of organizing the second half of the league in Dubai.

The last time UAE hosted the IPL was in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The games were held across three venues – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

However, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed last week that the remainder of the IPL matches will be held in India only.

“We are working closely with the government agencies and as soon as the dates of general elections announce, we will figure out the further plan...and hopefully the second phase of IPL will take place in India only, it's not going anywhere else,” Dhumal had said while speaking to IANS.
