Ruturaj Gaikwad took over as CSK captain from MS Dhoni.
On Friday, March 22, during the team's first game in Chennai against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the focus was still mostly on Dhoni. One of the main draws of the competitions is the seasoned keeper-batter, who many fans and analysts believe may be playing his final season for CSK.
Dhoni was at his tactical best against RCB, constantly having conversations with Gaikwad. The former captain was also seen setting fields for the bowlers.
Additionally, the camera periodically panned in Dhoni's direction. In response, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag made a joke out of it, telling the cameraman that since Gaikwad was the captain, he should also be taken seriously.
"Bhai Ruturaj ka bhi chehra dikha do ek do baar (in camera) vo bhi captain hai sirf Dhoni ka hi chehra dikha raha hai (Brother, Please show Rituraj's face as well (in camera), he is captain. The cameraman is showing only Dhoni's face)," Sehwag said on air)," Sehwag said on JioCinema.
This comment of Sehwag led to an interesting conversation with former CSK captain Suresh Raina. Raina was also commenting for JioCinema for the ongoing IPL 2024.
"Suresh Raina ji, Chinna Thala, Hai?" Sehwag told Raina.
"Lag to raha hai Thala hi kar rahe hai (Seems Thala is doing it - captaincy)" Raina replied.
