Nicholas Pooran confident in Rishabh Pant's success as Delhi Capitals' skipper in the IPL 2024.
As Rishabh Pant gears up for his highly anticipated return to competitive cricket in the IPL 2024, West Indies and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) power hitter Nicholas Pooran opened up about his conversation and the support and encouragement he gave to the Indian star during his journey of recovery.
Pooran, who himself overcame adversity following a car accident, understands the challenges Pant faced during his recovery, so he empathizes with Pant's struggle to make a comeback to the cricket field after a life-threatening car crash in December 2022.
The Trinidadian cricketer also extended a helping hand, offering moral support and guidance to Pant. He also highlighted the significance of having a supportive network during such a time.
Nicholas Pooran told IANS, “I think everyone is looking forward to seeing how he goes, and I am really excited and very happy for him.”
Speaking about the supportive network, the LSG star said: “You just need people to be there to support you, and I was trying to do exactly that.”
During their discussions, Pooran consistently provided words of encouragement to Pant and shared his own journey of overcoming adversity. He recalled reassuring Pant that he would indeed make a successful comeback to the game, saying a positive mindset during difficult times really helps.
Pooran further noted that “Pant handled the recovery process admirably like a champ, so well done to him” as his recovery demanded a lot of patience and resilience.
Witnessing Pant's progress included moments like being crutches free and returning to the nets, and the West Indies star said, “Those little victorious moments mean a lot.”
Pant will be returning to action with the Delhi Capitals (DC) taking on the Punjab Kings (PBSK) on March 23 in their IPL 2024 opener, and Pooran believes that embracing every moment and finding joy in the game will be crucial for the DC skipper’s success.
Pooran is confident that Pant will excel as the wicketkeeper-batsman and DC skipper in the IPL 2024.
